PROTOCOL FOR AS-SCS

(Stress Control System)

- for the management of stress related conditions, insomnia and the symptoms of fibromyalgia

First make sure you are hydrated - sip a glass of water. You can sit down, lie down, watch tv, use your computer or continue your usual daily activities while using the Alpha Stim Stress Control System (AS-SCS), however until you find out how it will work for you, it is best you at least sit down. (see precautions page).

For the AS-SCS to work best, it is important to maintain a healthy diet, as your body needs good nutrition in order to help heal itself.

1.   Insert 9v battery (supplied) into AS-SCS device. Connect earclip wire (supplied)to AS-SCS device.

2.   Place one adhesive felt pad on each earclip electrode (4 pads) then press together to fix.

3.   Thoroughly wet each pad with Alpha-Stim Solution (supplied)

4.   Wipe earlobes with wet facecloth or tissue to remove perspiration and/or makeup. Place earclips on earlobes  (the fleshy part of the ear where ear rings are usually worn).

7.    Turn device dial down to zero.

8.   Turn on device - it will begin counting down from 20 minutes or 60 minutes, whichever you have chosen.

9.   Slowly turn the intensity dial up until you feel something (don't worry if you feel nothing, as it is still working). You may feel a slight tingling sensation on your ear lobe.

10.  Turn intensity down if it feels uncomfortable. You do not have to feel anything for it to be still working for you.

11.  If you feel dizzy during use - lower the intensity. This happens sometimes because the microcurrent passes near the auditory nerve. If you have dental fillings, you may experience a mild metallic taste in your mouth - if so, you can rinse your mouth with water.

12.  You may feel worse for the first few treatments, this is normal for some people. Do not discontinue use. Some people feel benefits straight after the first treatment, others need 2 to 3 weeks of treatment before they feel any benefits. Sometimes the people around you see a difference in you before you do. The benefits may at first be subtle but enduring. If you are on any type of medications, it is important to seek medical advice before changing dosage of them. In any case it is always beneficial when using the Alpha-Stim devices to be monitored by a medical professional. Remember, this will probably be an educational experience for them too. Persevere - especially if you have been ill for a long time. You have to have time to adjust to feeling well, both physically and psychologically.

13.  Always treat for 20 minutes at least. If necessary treat every other day, or every third day rather than reducing the minimum treatment time (20 mins).

14.  You can use for longer than 20 minutes up to 60 minutes at a time. You can use more than once a day. You can use whenever you feel you need it e.g. during or before stressful events.

15.  Can be used by people who do not have stress disorders. Has been found to be good for jet lag, or just to help one to relax without medications.

16.  Occasionally some people get an area of skin irritation on their ear lobe. Simply move the earclips to different locations on the earlobe and make sure that the earlobe is clean before placing the earclips on them. Another tip would be to place some wet gauze between your ear lobe and the clip. Always make sure the felt pads are on the earclips, in place, and are saturated with the Alpha-Stim solution supplied. You do not have to replace the pads every time you use the SCS. However, replace pads when they become loose, or if sharing the SCS between different people - some people have skin disorders which may be transferred via the pads to you. A pack of 200 felt pads is supplied with the device and more can be ordered via our website. Pack of 200 felt pads should last a single person use, about 6 months or more.

PROTOCOL FOR AS-PPM

(Personal Pain Manager) for pain

For the management of Post-Operative pain, acute or chronic pain, sporting injuries, and pain associated with arthritis.

1.   Insert two AAA 1.5V battery(included) in to device.

2.   Connect 2 electrode wires into device sockets.

3.   Peel the four silver self adhesive electrodes off of their pad.

4.   Wipe area to be treated with wet facecloth to remove perspiration or makeup.

5.   Move limb or painful body part to assess level of pain. Make note of pain level on scale of 1 to 10.  1 being no pain, 10 being extreme pain.

6.   Place silver electrode pads on to area as shown on diagram (included). Turn device on. It will count time forward so that you know how long you have been using it.

7.   Leave in place for at least 25 minutes.

8.   Turn device off and assess pain level again on scale of 1 to 10 as above.

9.   If necessary it is perfectly OK to leave the pads on all day or night.

10.  Always have intensity at a level that is comfortable.

11.  After treatment remove pads and replace them on to their plastic pad for storage. Remember to turn device off to save battery life.

12.  Use as and when needed

13.  If electrode pads become less adhesive after many uses, rubbing a wet finger on to pads may extend their life, however when they no longer remain in place you will need to replace them. If using the device between people, it may be best (hygienically) to purchase a set of electrode pads for each person. (see accessories page).

14.  After treatment for pain it is very effective to use the AS-SCS device for 20 minutes as part of your treatment protocol, as usually people who have pain also experience mental stress due to enduring pain. Using the AS-SCS after treatment may help to stop the pain - stress - pain - stress cycle.
